'Tis the season to be jolly...
Fancy posing for a kiss under the mistletoe? A sweet treat? Or helping our local schools and charities this Christmas?
The team at Townsville Airport is getting into the spirit of things this festive season, joining with our passengers in the countdown to Christmas, with 12 days of fun activities, beginning today.
Kicking off the fun is the launch of our Christmas tree decorating competition – with 15 schools from the region submitting their best decorated trees for exhibition in the terminal during the holiday season.
The schools are vying for the ‘Best Dressed’ prize, with the tree found to be the most popular on social media set to earn a $1000 prize from Townsville Airport's Tech2Go store, while the runner up will receive a $200 cash donation from airport contractor ISS Services.
Another activity includes the donation of new children’s books to Ronald McDonald House in Townsville – for every book purchased in our stores, we will donate a new book to the charity up to the value of $5000.
And for the romantics among us with stars in their eyes this Christmas, now is your opportunity to steal a kiss with a loved one underneath our Australian native equivalent of the mistletoe archway, specially designed and constructed in conjunction with a local florist.
Other activities include the random giveaway of locally-baked cookies and chocolates,as well as Christmas carols, random parking ticket giveaways and vouchers to our retail stores.
Townsville Airport General Manager Commercial Isabelle Yates said Christmas was always a festive time in the terminal, with staff loving to join in the holiday spirit.
“Christmas is one of the busiest time of the year for the airport, with thousands of passengers passing through our gates en route to visit family and friends or enjoy a well-earned holiday break,” Ms Yates said.
“While everyone is busy trying to get where they want to go, we love to join in the holiday spirit with a bit of fun for our customers. We’ve got an action-packed schedule of fun activities while we countdown the 12 days to Christmas Day.
“After the success of last year’s inaugural 12-day countdown in the terminal, we decided to do it all again. Our staff love getting in on the action and sharing in the fun. We wish all our passengers, visitors and staff a very merry Christmas and joyous new year.”
In December last year, Townsville Airport saw 143,523 passengers pass through its gates, with figures in line with this expected in 2018.
