It’s the food of the ancient Gods… a crispy puff, soaked in golden honey and sprinkled with nuts and spices.

Passengers were treated to the culinary delight as part of Townsville Airport’s partnership with Greek Fest Glendi, which promises a feast for the senses – celebrating all things Mediterranean on 12 and 13 October.

Townsville Airport has been sponsoring the event since 2007.

Townsville Airport Aviation General Manager Brendan Cook said the airport team was proud to be involved with the region’s biggest annual cultural event.

“This is one of Townsville Airport’s longest-standing event partnerships, dating back to the Greek Festival days more than a decade ago,” he said.

“Greek Fest Glendi is a wonderful promoter of travel and cultural celebration – as an airport operator that’s something we’re right behind.”

Mr Cook said each year the partnership was celebrated with a free handout of famous Greek honey puffs to arriving passengers.  

“We couldn’t think of a better way to encourage our customers to head along to the festival during their trip to Townsville than by sampling some Greek treats,” he said.

Greek Fest Glendi Festival Coordinator Bill Malandris said thousands of servings of honey puffs would be sold during the weekend.

“Greek Fest Glendi promises to be a feast in more ways than one – we have all the Greek culinary classics and other Mediterranean treats, a traditional Greek band flying up from Sydney, a dance group coming in from Darwin and Sesame Street’s Elmo and Cookie Monster entertaining the kids,” he said.

“The partnership with Townsville Airport is so important to us – it helps us keep Greek Fest Glendi a free event for the community.”

The free festival also includes markets, cooking demonstrations and amusement rides.

Greek Fest Glendi will be held at Riverway on 12 and 13 October.
