Local produce the star of new airport bar
Townsville Airport, in collaboration with Lagardère Travel Retail and the Townsville Brewery, have this week opened the doors to a new café and bar in the terminal, aptly named ‘The Bar’.
Townsville Airport General Manager Commercial Isabelle Yates said she was excited about the expanded food and beverage offering at the airport, which would enhance the passenger experience.
“We are one of the fastest growing airports in Australia, and are committed to enhancing the travel experience for our growing passenger base,” Ms Yates said.
“We have been pushing to have more local produce available in the terminal, to showcase Townsville’s impressive offering.”
The venue, which has been styled similarly to The Brewery’s Flinders Street site, will offer delicious local brews, coffee and fresh breads and pastries by a local artisan baker.
Townsville Brewery Head Brewer Sam Lloyd said the local products were the star of the new bar.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Lagardère Travel Retail and the airport to bring fresh local produce to the gateway of North Queensland,” Mr Lloyd said.
“It’s really critical that big business supports smaller local businesses, and we are confident the airport will provide great exposure to our incredible offering of local goods.
“Townsville Bitter and Tropical Coast Pale Ale will be fixtures on two taps, while a third will showcase a rotation of different beers.”
Paul Ryan, Chief Strategy & Development Officer – Pacific, for Lagardère Travel Retail said, “We pride ourselves on being agile to work with global and local brands, so we are thrilled to bring Townsville Brewery, a strong and iconic local brand to Townsville Airport and its community”.
“With a shared vision on enhancing passenger experiences throughout our long and successful partnership with Townsville Airport, we are confident the offer at The Bar, which also includes one of Australia’s leading premium specialty coffee roasters, Campos, will realise this.”
The venue will be open seven days a week, with the cafe running from breakfast through to dinner.
Lagardère Travel Retail is one of the largest global travel retailers with more than 300 outlets in 16 airports throughout the world.
Townsville Airport recorded its strongest passenger growth in eight years in March 2018.
Townsville Airport is owned by Queensland Airports Limited, which also operates Gold Coast, Mount Isa and Longreach airports.
